A two-day road trip with friends to Yosemite National Park reminded me of the bounties of nature in these United States. There is so much to see—and to receive.
Wonderful piece my dear friend. We were humbled at the beauty and grandeur of Yosemite. The Tuolumne meadows, Glacier Point, Half Dome and all its faces tugs at your heart that doesn't want to leave. Yosemite will never get old. The memories of our first visit together added to the fun and nostalgia. Muir and Alex in one piece was brilliant. The ending was as imposing as El Capitan itself.
Loved your piece about Yosemite. I think it's the most beautiful natural place in the world! I had a Half Dome adventure some 20 years ago. I'd never backpacked, so a group of us practice-backpacking at Portola State Park in the Santa Cruz Mtns. As for Half Dome itself, we took 3 days for the adventure: One for a noisy night camping in the Valley, second one at Little Yosemite. The third was Little Yosemite again after doing Half Dome. Except that I decided no Half Dome for me. At Round Dome I looked at that cable and thought, "what if my hand slipped, what if the line is incredibly slow and I can't hold on any more." So, my husband and the rest of our group went on ahead, while I took my ease at Round Dome and explained to other hikers that I decided I'd stay right where I was. Some applauded me for my courage.
My real courage came into play when a bear decided to strip my backpack that night. I threw my hiking boots at him while yelling "Go away, Bear." He did!
A timely piece as we look forward to our first trip to Yosemite next week! We moved to California just two months before the pandemic so only now wandering out to see the state! Sad to note it’s a fairly dry time of the year but we will hopefully enjoy the experience we have heard so much about!!
Love it. So grateful I read it. Proud of you my neighbor 😘
